Visitors:
The International exhibition of calligraphy has the powers to unite people of different faiths from multinational Russia and other countries. The high significance of the project was highlighted in the letters from the heads of the main religions: the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Kirill; Russia’s Chief Rabbi, Berl Lazar; Chairman of the Russian Mufti Council, sheikh, Ravil Gainutdin; President of the Russian Association of Buddhists, Koibagarov Alexander; and a representative of the Holy Throne in Russia, the Apostolic Nuncio, Antonio Mennini.
The first Russian International exhibition of calligraphy was successfully held in St. Petersburg (September 16th-21st, 2008), the second event was in Moscow (October 14th - November 14th, 2009), and the third in Veliky Novgorod (September 10th-12th, 2010). The extent to which a growing interest in calligraphy can be expressed eloquently in the figures: the number of visitors is increasing year by year, so if the St. Petersburg exhibition was visited by 17 thousand, the Moscow exhibition by 30 thousand people, thus the Novgorod exhibition saw more than 37 thousand visitors.
Business programme:
Traditionally, within the bounds of the International exhibition of calligraphy numerous master-classes are held. In different years, calligraphic performances were staged by such great masters of calligraphy, as Nja Mahdaoui (patriarch of the global and Arabic calligraphy), Avraam Borshevsky (expert on sacred calligraphy), Barbara Calzolari (personal calligrapher of Pope Benedict XVI), Missimo Polello (President of the Turin Guild of calligraphers), Kim Jong Chill (famous Korean calligrapher) and many other foreign masters. In addition, the best Russian calligraphers, headed by President of the National Union of Calligraphers, Petr Chobitko, always participate in the programme.
